Absolute Steel carport kits between 10 and 30 feet in width have a roof slope of 3/12 (3” rise for every foot of horizontal run). The figures in red in the table above give you the peak height of carports in this size range, with standard roof pitch.
It’s possible to have your carport’s roof pitch modified, if needed. Because we design and make our own carport frames, we’re able to provide you with this custom option. To discuss a custom roof slope for your carport (or any other modifications you might like) give us a phone call at 1-877-833-3237 and talk with one of our staff.
The roof framing for carports and RV covers wider than 20’ includes roofing trusses – needed to provide secure support for the full weight of the wider roof. Addition of trusses reduces the carport’s clearance height, so make sure to take this into consideration when working out the dimensions of your new structure. If you’ll be covering high-profile equipment or vehicles, the roof trussing may mean you’ll need to order a carport/RV cover with taller sidewalls, in order to get all the clearance you’ll need.
As a simple rule of thumb, your clearance height in a 20’ or wider carport will be the sidewall height minus 2”. Just for example, a carport that’s 20’ wide or greater, with sidewalls standing 12’ 6” high will have a clearance of 12’ 4” (12’ 6” minus 2”).
If you’re setting up your RV cover or carport in an area with only light snowfall and no substantial snow accumulation during the winters, we may be able to raise the truss height a few inches, to give you some extra clearance overhead. If you think this applies to your carport, just let us know and we’ll work it out with you.

Wider carports and RV covers – those exceeding 30’ in width – will have a different roof pitch than our narrower structures. Rather than a 3/12 pitch, these wider carports will be pitched at 4/12. The table just above shows peak height for such carports, in red.
Roof pitch can usually be modified in larger carports, just as it can in our narrower buildings. To learn more about your roof pitch options, contact us at 1-877-833-3237.
