The standard roof slope on our 10- to 30-foot-wide garage buildings 3” in 12” (3/12). Peak heights for 10’ wide – 30’ wide garages with a 3/12 roof pitch are shown in red in the table above.

If your project requires a different slope, the good news is that Absolute Steel manufactures its own steel frame systems – so we have the ability to modify your roof’s slope if needed. Call 1-877-833-3237 for information.

Structures that exceed 20’ wide require a roof truss system. Clearance height becomes an issue when a truss system is installed, especially if your planned use is as an RV Garage or for other high-profile equipment storage. To calculate the clearance height of a garage building that exceeds 20’ in width, take the building’s eave height (sidewall height) and deduct 2 inches.

Example: All buildings 20’ wide – 40’ wide that have an eave height of 10’-6” will have a roof truss clearance height of 10’-4”. Another example: 12’-6” eave height equals 12’-4” clearance height, and so on.

There are exceptions to this rule in areas that receive little or no snow. In such cases, many times the height of the truss brace can be raised a few inches if needed, to add clearance for your recreational vehicle or high-profile equipment.

The standard roof slope on all of our garages wider than thirty feet is 4” in 12” (4/12). Peak heights for 40’-wide steel buildings with a 4/12 roof pitch are shown in red in the table above.

All of our garage kits 30+’ to 40’ wide require a roof truss system as mentioned above. Take this into consideration if you are planning an RV garage, over-the-road truck repair shop or a similar type building that will house high-profile equipment.

Again, Absolute Steel manufactures its own steel frame systems, so we have the ability to modify the roof slope if needed. Call your steel building consultant at 1-877-833-3237 for more information.
